Betting Accounts Advice
Hi All,

Just a quick note as some members have reported having betting accounts somewhat restricted after our huge winning run with a record 93 unit profit in August and then the $20k quaddie on Sunday etc. Certainly by no means the first time but was to be expected and I'm sure there's plenty more examples than what I've heard.

A couple of points:

1) Restrictions often vary between meetings. They might restrict you more on say harness and greyhounds, but might let you bet on provincial gallops for a certain amount, and on metropolitan gallops for a lot more. So don't just assume you've been restricted just because it's happened once. Try across a few different bet types over a decent period of time to know exactly where and how much you're restricted.

2) With some restrictions you might want to put on say $100 on a horse, but they say they'll accept $80 and refer the rest to a trader. My advice is to place your bet just below the amount they'll accept, but don't bet any higher as the more bets you have referred to a trader, the more your account will come under scrutiny. Also try keep your total bet size under $100, and total amount won with the bookie under $1000. I suggest re-reading the section regarding protecting your bookie accounts in the Member's Information Pack.

3) If you are heavily restricted or banned, never fear.

Please don't forget that Minimum Bet Regulations exist on all NSW racing, which means any bookie, even one that has banned or restricted you, must allow you to bet to win $2,000 on Metropolitan/City win bets or $1,000 on Provincial/Country win bets. These apply from 9am on raceday, which is why I send NSW bets after 9am, so everyone can get set.

However, if you're not aware, Victoria are also introducing the same Minimum Bet Regulations in just a couple of weeks (from October 1) also from 9am on raceday. So all bets on Victoria racing will also be sent after 9am so everyone can get on at the best prices, whether restricted/banned or not.

This is fantastic news for members and all punters, with the two biggest racing states in Australia both guaranteeing people can get set for a decent amount across all bookies. Word is Queensland are looking to implement something similar hopefully reasonably soon, and it's quite possible that in 2017 all states will have similar laws. A fantastic future ahead if that's the case.

All the best.
