Blackbookers 24-Jan-18
Where: Hawkesbury R5 (1000m)
Horse: Dream I Can
Trainer/Jockey: Ron Quinton/Christian Reith
Silks: Black,Yellow Seams
Odds: $11
Comment: Jumped a touch slow and drifted back early. Took a few strides to keep up with the bunch but seemed to be travelling well in the run. Saved a couple of lengths on the turn by coming inside of a couple of horses and really hit the line strongly for 2nd. The horse wanted to duck in a bit and was held up slightly. Finished 1.9L from the winner, who ran a slick 55.99 for the 1000m.
Where to next: Looking at the horses win range (1300/1300) I dare say the horse will be stepping up to the 1200m.

Where: Pinjarra R6 (1000m)
Horse: On The Turps
Trainer/Jockey: Dave Harrison/Paul Harvey
Silks: Orange and Yellow Hoops, Quartered Cap
Odds: $5
Comment: Jumped well but drifted back and settled last on the outside rail (Pinjarra straight race) which is generally the place to be. At the 400m the runs were not available on the outside fence and was forced to duck back through the field to try and get in the race. Left a touch flat-footed but really accelerated in the last 100m to finish 3.1L 5th. Ran the fastest last 600m (33.34) and the overall time was solid. A real eye-catching performance if you watch the vision.
Where to next: Looking at the form it looks a genuine 1000m horse. Might need a track with a bend but has won over the Pinjarra 1000m before.

Where: Ballarat R6 (1200m)
Horse: Kazio
Trainer/Jockey: Colin Little/Luke Nolen
Silks: Gold and Black Stripes, Red Sleeves and Cap
Odds: $5.50
Comment: Jumped fine but was snicked back to the tail from the wide draw by Nolen. Had nice cover in the run and was tracking into it well from the tail. Seemed to just wobble a fraction on the bend and then was left a touch flat-footed at the top of the straight. Worked through the line well enough for 3.4L 7th but couldn’t pick up the ground with the 60.5kg.
Where to next: The horse was first up on this occasion over 1200m and while in the market, looked in need of the run. The horse stretched out to 1600m last prep so I would say a 1400m race next start would be the target.

Where: Benella R8 (1606m)
Horse: Falconi Rubi
Trainer/Jockey: Chris Davies/Patrick Moloney
Silks: Royal Blue, White Horseshoes, Red and White Stars Sleeves and Cap
Odds: $26
Comment: Stepped half slowly but an excellent bit of riding from Moloney saw him muster and find a position mid-field on the fence. The speed was clapped on by Lakers Lass but the horse wasn’t bothered and was seemingly trucking in the run. Tried to pop off the fence with a lap full of horse at the top of the straight but the runs had closed on her. Only really got out in the last 75m but the bird had flown. Still only finished 2.2L 4th under hands and heels. A good thing beaten in a decent enough BM58 race.
Where to next: Hard to get a gauge on the horse as she is only 1 win from 25 starts but going through the form she is never far away and could bob up in something similar next start.
