Flemington Review 20-Jan-18
Race 1: Bitalli Handicap 1800m
Willi Willi (1st) led at a controlled tempo, gave a good kick, never in doubt. Mr Churchill (2nd) settled towards the rear on rails, made good ground in the straight. Royal Ace (3rd) box seated and battled on well enough.
Race 2: Doriemus Handicap 2500m
Last Week (1st) settled a touch worse than midfield, travelled up strongly and let down well to put them away. Bint El Bedu (2nd) settled at the rear, made an early move approaching the turn, stuck on well. Al Haram (3rd) had a nice run midfield, did enough in the straight.
Race 3: Patrobas Handicap 2000m
Mahamedeis (1st) settled towards the rear on rails, travelled into the race well, gap appeared at 400m mark, let down well to score. Almighty Crown (2nd) had a lovely run in transit, took over on straightening, winner too strong late. Civil Disobedience (3rd) settled towards the rear, travelled up strongly, wanted to lay in the entire straight.
Race 4: Dolly’s Dream Handicap 2000m
One for Later (1st) had a lovely run box seating, sprinted well and has gone on to win easily. Stormy Shore (2nd) settled towards the rear, picked up late to hit the line well. Bertwhistle (3rd) settled midfield, made steady ground in the straight.
Race 5: Victorian Owner Gold Card Handicap 1600m
Sohool (1st) had a lovely run just off the speed, travelled up strongly, didn’t put them away but has done enough to hold on. Aurum Spirit (2nd) settled towards the rear, looked to be struggling, picked up well late to attack the line. Cha Cha King (3rd) led and battled on in the straight. Very bunched finish.
Race 6: NJT20Cricket.com.au Handicap 1200m
Just Hifalutin (1st) settled towards the rear, peeled to outside, let down well, just held on late, horse and stable flying. Atlantic City (2nd) settled towards rear, was held up for some stages, sprinted well when got room, just missed. Leodoro (3rd) settled at the rear, ran on well down the outside.
Race 7: Inglis Dash 1100m
Nature Strip (1st) led, gave a good kick, was challenged but did enough. Prezado (2nd) sat just off the speed, sprinted well to challenge the winner who was just too strong late. Bravo Tango (3rd) settled last, made good ground late.
Race 8: Kensington Stakes 1000m
Rock ‘n’ Gold (1st) sat just behind the speed, sprinted well, toughed it out well late. Husson Eagle (2nd) settled at the rear, showed its usual sharp sprint to just miss. Itz Invincible (3rd) sat on the speed and battled on well.
Race 9: VRC Young Members Handicap 1400m
Malaise (1st) was caught three wide without cover the entire trip, travelled up and well and proved the strongest late, good effort. Wise Hero (2nd) sat outside the leader, travelled strongly, let down well enough, winner too strong late. King’s Command (3rd) sat three wide with cover, peeled out around the turn, made good ground without threatening the top two.
