Not the strongest Doncaster of all time, but an intriguing and competitive handicap nonetheless. Brandenburg profiles in a similar fashion to last year’s winner Brutal – a fit, in form 3yo down in the weights, and I have him on top. His price has eased a bit today, and he’s very close to backable – I’ll make a final decision in the morning but I’ll likely be on him. I’ll definitely be having smaller bets on the fit softtrackers Cascadian and Yulong Prince at big odds, they are both capable of winning and look over the odds to me. Melody Belle won’t find it easy with 57kg here but she loves the wet and is certainly a winning chance. Prince Fawaz was very good in the Rosehill Guineas and the drop back to a mile looks good, but that run looks like a bit of a ratings spike to me so I’m going to let him go, but clearly he can win on a repeat of his last start figure. As you’d expect, there are a host of middle-pin chances, including Imaging, Super Seth, Shared Ambition, Kolding and Mister Sea Wolf.
