Gawler Preview 13-Jan-18

Track – Currently Rated Good 4

Rail – +3m 900m-400m, +2m Remainder

Race 1: Coopers Handicap 1208m

Go the Journey looks to find a very suitable race here, comes off a good run in the Christmas Handicap first up, will settle on the speed here and looks to have a class edge on his rivals. Counter Pulse is a consistent type, will be on the speed and give a sight. Strategic Demand will be running on late.

2.5 units – Go the Journey @ $2.80

Race 2: Kingsford Hotel 3YO Maiden Plate 1108m

Scarecrow was sent out as a long odds on favourite on debut and had to settle for 2nd, resumes here after being gelded, market will be a guide. Institution ran well first up after a long break, should have taken improvement from the run and is right in this. Lanzini an interesting debutant, market will be a good guide. Bajan will be running on late.

No betting interest here.

Race 3: Goldin Farms Handicap 1508m

Peretti was heavily backed last start when she was able to break her maiden, this is a step up but wouldn’t surprise. Antipas resumes for Tony McEvoy after racing in Victoria in its first prep, very hard to line up. Rushwa is racing consistently and must be respected here.

Very tricky race, staying out.

Race 4: Terrace Function Centre Handicap 1712m

Ace Attack is racing well without winning, looks to find an extremely suitable race here and this is his chance to break through this prep. Braidley is racing well this prep, step up here but must be respected. Cobber has been up for a long time but continues to race consistently. Downunder Prince wouldn’t surprise at odds.

Ace Attack clearly on top but no interest in the price on offer.

Race 5: Ausbia Electrical Handicap 1108m

Mandee had no luck at all first up, looks the class runner of the race here and looks to map well. Vivaldi’s Quest has been racing in better company but not convinced he is going well, his racing pattern doesn’t help, looks short. Vicki’s Boy is racing well without winner. Good Luck Chuck could be the horse on the up here, must be respected.

Very average race, staying out.

Race 6: Holdfast Insurance Handicap 2112m

My Nikita comes here for the Weir camp after contesting races in Melbourne, this looks much easier, extremely hard to line up. Exalted Lightning is flying, likes it here at Gawler, should prove hard to hold out. Cool Fonzy is racing very well but struggles to win. Flying Casino can win if he’s at his best.

Don’t like getting involved in these staying races.

Race 7: Barossa Valley Schild Estate Wines Handicap 1508m

Don’t We Love It another Weir runner which comes here extremely hard to line up, market a guide. Hazy Lane is an honest type, will be on the speed and give them something to catch. Kirona is racing well and must be respected here.

Weir runner extremely hard to line up, staying out.

Race 8: Gawler South Bakery Handicap 1208m

Written in Stone another one from the Weir camp, has been contesting city races in Melbourne so this looks easier, should be running on well late. Miss Cuoco loves it here on her home track, flying and is right in this. Rupture scored a deserved win last start, can take confidence from that, and go on with it here. Street Life will be on speed and give a sight at odds.

Very tough race to end the day, Miss Cuoco and Rupture probably the value but will be staying out.
