Gawler Review 23-Dec-17

Race 1: Merry Christmas Everyone Maiden Plate 1200m

Modulate (1st) had a lovely run just off the speed, travelled up strongly, has just managed to hold on late. Datura (2nd) had a lovely run, loomed, and looked the winner 100m out but the winner was too strong late, must start to question his will to win. Cobbers Mate (3rd) settled last and ran on well late.

Race 2: Barossa Volkswagen/Sabois 2YO Plate 1100m

Chicago Typewriter (1st) led, got control, and kept finding in the straight to win well, nice debut. Tadween (2nd) sat on the speed and kept battling away in the straight, never troubled the winner. Euroglider (3rd) box seated and battled away in the straight, should improve from the experience.

Race 3: Gawler Summer Twilight Series Class Two Handicap 1100m

Miss Cuoco (1st) settled last off what looked a strong tempo, travelled strongly on the turn and has rounded them up in the straight, loves racing on the home track. French Rock (2nd) didn’t have the best of runs on speed, kept finding in the straight, nice run. Just a Bigger Dash (3rd) was pressured early and weakened in the straight.

Race 4: Goldin Farms BM 70 Handicap 2100m

Exalted Lightning (1st) sat just behind the speed, travelled up strongly and kicked clear, won well, is flying. Super Swoop (2nd) settled at the rear and did not have much luck at crucial stages, should have tested the winner. Robocop (3rd) ran on well late, is racing well but rarely wins.

Race 5: Pretty Princess Cheree BM 64 Handicap 1500m

Éclair Calling (1st) had the perfect run just off the speed, presented strongly and showed a nice sprint to put them away, looks a nice type. Grumpy Guru (2nd) box seated, battled on in the straight, no match the winner. Containment (3rd) had a nice run midfield and ran on late, had its chance.

Race 6: Ausbia Electrical BM 82 Handicap 1200m

Chapel City (1st) was caught three wide the entire trip and has still managed to round them up in the straight, big win, going very well this prep. Counter Pulse (2nd) led and kept kicking in the straight. Strategic Demand (3rd) had a nice run off the speed, ran on in the straight.

Race 7: Coopers Star of Christmas Series Final 1500m

Strategic Glass (1st) settled towards the rear, made ground along the rails, got the gap and sprinted well to win, great ride. Gogo Grace (2nd) was heavily backed, settled last and was forced extremely wide on the turn, ran on strongly late, should have won. Baker’s Dozen (3rd) had the perfect run, made ground in the straight but had his chance.

Race 8: Holdfast Insurance BM 75 Handicap 1700m

Saturday Sorcerer (1st) led, rolled along at a solid tempo, and always looked the winner. Soaring High (2nd) was caught three wide the trip towards the rear, hit a flat spot on straightening but picked up again late, should have gone close. Impulse Diavlo (3rd) had a lovely run in transit, made ground in the straight.
