Dave is someone I have known for quite some time, and he has proven to be profitable series after series and year after year focusing solely on Cricket.

The T20 World Cup starts in just 2 days (Tuesday March 8), so I interviewed Dave recently so you could understand more about his approach.

How long have you been betting profitably on cricket?

I have been betting on cricket for 5 years but I will openly admit I was a punting averagely for the first 2 years and not always securing value. Over the last 3 years I have shifted my focus to ensuring there was value present in every bet placed and have been betting very profitably on cricket over that period.

Why do you focus on cricket particularly? Where do you find the biggest edges?

I focus on cricket purely because it’s the game I love. I already subconsciously know if a market price is value at first glance as I watch all the cricket games I possibly can because I love the game and keep track of local cricket all the way up to the International Level. The biggest edge without doubt is player propositions. However with some corporates it’s unrealistic to be able to get “set” on these markets for any decent amounts. Because of this I had to transfer my edge on the market from single players and look at the team view. This transition has helped me make a handy POT% on the main markets such as Win and Top Team Runscorer. At the end of the day there’s no point in having an edge if you can’t put the desired stake on the selection. However some bookies such as Topsport have started coming to the party taking bets on player props also, so these may still be available to us going forward.

How long before a game are the bets normally be released?

Bets will generally be sent a couple of hours before the game but in some cases bets will be sent after the Toss which is 30 mins before game start. That’s because the toss can have a HUGE impact on who wins the game, from chasing bias to the green monsters we saw in the recent NZ vs Aus series, sometimes it’s “win the toss, win the game”.

What information do you provide with each bet?

Unit Size, Suggested Bet, Price, Bookie, Excluded Bookie with a better price or line, reasoning for the bet and any extra information/bets I will place that are only value/at the excluded bookmakers. These will not count towards official results but they are value so why not take them if you can!

Although a lot depends on which way the coin falls tomorrow morning Australia were just so dominant in the first test I can’t see them losing this game. They have won the all-important mental battle against NZ when they ran straight through them on one of the flattest wickets I’ve ever seen in the second innings at the basin.

Extra Information: My first trading strategy for this game will be to back whoever bowls first on the exchanges for 2.5u and look to lay off for a tidy 10% profit after commission. Early in tests I normally only look for a couple % but the pitch is dicey so expecting 2-3 wickets in the first session which will give us a good market move.

What is a realistic Profit on Turnover percentage?

The realistic POT is anywhere between 5% to 15% over the course of the year. I rate a successful year at anything over 5% 'officially'. Importantly I will pride myself on making sure every single subscriber can get the recorded price and often beat it as I record very conservatively. So if we got 5% over the course of the year I would be surprised if a punter with most corporate accounts didn’t get 8-10%.

Do I bet straight away, or wait until close to the match starts?

I suggest you bet as soon as possible after receiving the message. However we all have busy lives so if you can’t bet straight away and miss a price then you can monitor as often prices will wind in and then slowly start winding out as the bookies balance their books over the course of betting. Don’t panic and simply take best fixed unless the advice says so.

How will you Record Odds?

I will record odds at the odds sent out when advised to bet. I exclude a number of bookmakers from my records as previously mentioned above, so if you have access to any of those you should easily be able to beat official results. If there are any bets that are only value at those bookmakers on the excluded list I will advise these as bonus selections that will not count towards the official results.
