Morphettville Parks Preview 1-Jun-19

Track – Currently Rated Soft 5

Rail – +5m Entire Sectional 606m, Main Track +4m 1200m-600m; +6m Remainder.

Race 2: Sabois 2YO Maiden Plate 1000m

Race for the 2YO’s over the 1000m and debutant Eight Over Eight is the current $3 favourite. Hard to have any confidence in a speed map with majority of the field on debut.

Blake Says: Little interest here with majority of the field on debut, happy to watch and learn.

Lachlan Says: Early money suggests that EIGHT OVER EIGHT might be ready to roll here. Nice trial back in Feb when ran slicker times that some older and class horses. Haven’t seen anything of late from trials/jump out so will have to take on trust. SHEZA LITTLE POSH, VILANELLE and MAGIC PHANTOM all have exposed form but it's not overly good. Looks a watch race but respect the early move from the EIGHT OVER EIGHT. Watch and learn.

Race 3: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1000m

We are over the sprint journey again here, this time of the 3YO’s. Trilli currently heads the market at $3.20. Papalet and Exalted Maxine look the main speed engaged.

Blake Says: Burning The Clock is racing well and looks to find a very winnable race, gets a positive jockey change here and maps to get a lovely run just off the speed, the one to beat. Trilli brings form good enough to win this race, map looks a touch tricky.

Lachlan Says: BOLD STAR was good last weekend and is on the quick back up. Gordon Richards has a knack of them getting up on the 7 day turn around. BURNING THE CLOCK has the same form reference as BOLD STAR behind MAGNA BELLA so it must be respected too. Might pay to watch SAPPHIRE MISS as the horse has been $17 to $9 in early markets and is in the powerful Will Clarken stable. Another race that doesn't interest me on the betting side of things.

Race 4: BM 82 Handicap 2400m

Race for the stayers over the 2400m and Lostarc is the current $2.40 favourite. The Willybe and Lostarc look the main speed engaged and should get control on the speed.

Blake Says: No betting interest here. Lostarc continues to race well and finds a race with little depth here but is unproven at the distance and seems very well found in the market. Meli Melo is racing well and is proven at the distance, top pick but no interest in the price on offer.

Lachlan Says: Another stay out staying event. MELI MELO is doing a really good job this prep but has been running well at bigger SP's. Hard to dive in at the $3.30 but wouldn't surprise me to be fighting out the finish. LOSTARC is short enough but should be in the finish. There's no value in the horses expected to run well and there's no value in the rough hopes as they all look like finishing at the tail. Minor claims for SHAKOPEE which was luckless Wednesday and is in the 3 day back up. No selection here but hope MELI MELO wins as the horse deserves another one this prep.

Race 5: BM 82 Handicap 1250m

We race over the 1250m here and its Debt Collector currently heading the market at $2.50. Vieira and By The Pound look the main speed engaged.

Blake Says: Debt Collector continues to race well without winning, gets a positive jockey change here and the blinkers for the first time. With the inside barrier in the small field he should be able to sit just off them and will get his chance to break through for a win this prep.

Lachlan Says: Ignoring the favourites there looks to be a couple of nice horses going around at a price here. VIERA pulled hard and knocked up first up from a spell. Better for the run and is talented. MASTER CHUM is coming back from the 1600m to the 1250m but that should work in the horses favour. Gets in with 51kg with the claim. Is clearly up in class but has shown enough in the early career. Happy to be on those two at the prices on offer. No disrespect to Debt Collector as the horse has the clear ability to win but how do you take $2.30 for a horse that has lost his last 4 starts at sub $4. Blinkers might do the trick though.

Race 6: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1550m

Race over the 1550m and it’s an open market with Rapid Bay the current $3.70 favourite. Yulong Patrol can kick up to lead with Putting On Airs and Left Hand Man handy.

Blake Says: Rapid Bay has been impressive in his career to date, comes through some strong Provincial form lines. This is tougher, but looks to have plenty of upside. Ice Ghost is the class runner. Wins rarely because of his racing pattern, can land midfield here and should be hitting the line strongly. Staying out.

Lachlan Says: Two horse race for mine and will be backing both for a short collect. ICE GHOST has been up a while but has been racing in strong events. The 1550m looks like his maximum journey but will appreciate any sting out the ground. RAPID BAY is a horse I have marked since it's debut and finally put it all together last start to breakthrough at Gawler. While it was only a MDN, the horse ran 8L faster over the same trip as the older horses in a BM64 later in the day. Gets the chance to prove how good he is here.

Race 7: BM 90 Handicap 1550m

We are over the 1550m once again here, Waging War currently heads the market at $2.60. Mihany looks the leader with Desidero and Our Bottino handy.

Blake Says: Tricky race and one I have zero betting interest in. Happy to just watch.

Lachlan Says: BALF'S CHOICE can be forgiven for one average run this prep and enjoys the sting out the track. CHAPEL CITY finally produced something near his best last weekend for a closing 2nd. If the horse can peak here, it can win. OUR BOTTINO was only fair at Flemington but can be forgiven for racing wide. Stuck on OK. Has excellent 2nd up form. Looks a genuine chance at a price. Happy to back it each-way.

Race 8: BM 64 Handicap 1250m

Race over the 1250m here and Royal Duty currently heads the market at $4. Cool Maverick could hold the lead with Pamela Joy and See Me Rollin’ handy.

Blake Says: Found this race tricky with a lot of interstate form lines. Bajan will need plenty of luck with his racing pattern but there looks some pressure up front here which suits, likes the wet and can run a race at the double figure odds. Still staying out here.

Lachlan Says: An even event. ELLE A WALKING did too much first up but still ground home late at Gawler. Was a first start for the stable so can improve. SKILLFUL STEPS knocked up first start back from a spell but is better than that. PALE ALE comes from the same race and stuck on strongly. Is rarely far away and will appreciate any chop out the surface. ROYAL DUTY only won a BM58 at Mildura last start and HARD UP is coming from Casterton so it's hard to get enthused with them. Sticking with the locals ELLE A WALKING and PALE ALE as small win bets.

Race 9: BM 70 Handicap 1400m

We end the day with a race over the 1400m and it’s Going Gaga currently heading the market at $3.80. Doesn’t look a whole lot of early pressure and the lead looks up for grabs.

Blake Says: Tough race to end the day. Going Gaga looks to find a much more suitable race here, just not sure how well he is going and will need some luck in running. France’s Boy had favours last start when winning but did do it well, likes the wet and can’t knock winning form in a race of this nature. No betting interest, staying out.

Lachlan Says: If you put a line through GOING GAGA's effort at Strathalbyn two starts back then it's hard not to like the horse here. Both runs before that were excellent and last run at Flemington was full of merit. BELLOMO is racing inconsistently this prep but has the ability to run well here considering it ran 2nd to the talented PARSIFAL (which since has won again in Melbourne) SOARING HIGH will need a few runs to get into things but has been known to run slick sectionals fresh. Maybe worth a nibble but will be backing GOING GAGA and BELLOMO.
