Morphettville Parks Preview 24-Feb-18
Track – Currently Rated Good 4
Rail – Out 8m 1000m-WP, Out 5m Remainder
Race 1: 2KW Bar & Restaurant Handicap 1000m
Dancer’s Kin did a good job on debut, beat home Double Denman on that occasion who came out last week and won, will be amongst the finish here. Manzala resumes here after a good debut win last prep, market watch. Gytrash did a good job on debut last week, was caught wide throughout, right in this.
Good little race but no betting interest.
Race 2: Palmer Hospitality Group 3YO Maiden Plate 1000m
Thought Incomparable did a good job on debut, showed good speed on that occasion, expect him to take a forward position here and prove very hard to catch. Mighty Mick has been racing in much stronger company, this looks more suitable. Debutants hard to line up, I think Incomparable has the raced brigade covered easily.
2.5 units – Incomparable @ $2.20
Race 3: The New Morphett Arms Hotel Handicap 2250m
Archery Peak comes here after contesting stronger races in Victoria, this looks suitable, deserved favourite. Tunes is going well without winning, same can be said for Spy Decoder and Flow Meter. Flying Casino and Casiraghi both not the worst at odds.
Archery Peak on top but no interest in the price on offer.
Race 4: Pimm’s Handicap 1250m
Takemehomeminister resumes here for the new stable, blinkers go on and does face its easiest task to date, must be respected. Just a Bigger Dash is racing well, don’t think the step up in distance suits but will be on speed and give them something to catch. Callisto Girl can be an improver second up.
Tricky race, not betting.
Race 5: Peroni Handicap 1550m
Star Fortune was strong when winning here last start, should sit just off the speed here and be hard to hold out late. Mihany got the job done first up when just holding on, will lead here but don’t like the step up in distance, looks short. Strategic Demand is racing well but struggling to win. Scratchy Lass is flying and must be respected here.
Star Fortune on top in a tricky race, staying out.
Race 6: James Boag’s Premium Handicap 1400m
Counterplay was only plain first up, will take good improvement from the run and this race looks very winnable, will be amongst the finish but couldn’t get involved in the short quote on offer. El Desperado only just got the job done last start as an odds on favourite, should take confidence from that and be amongst the finish here. Unscopeable was good last week when going down narrowly, the step up in distance suits, should prove hard to hold out late.
0.5 units – Unscopeable @ $6.50
Race 7: The Warradale Hotel Handicap 1250m
Blue Tycoon had many favours when winning here two weeks back but still got the job done comfortably, should get a lovely run in transit here and prove hard to beat. Star Stealer comes here for the Weir camp from Victoria, hard to line up but looks up to this. Looks a two horse race and the market agrees.
2 units – Blue Tycoon @ $2.30
Race 8: Metcalf Group (SA) Handicap 1000m
Avanti Rose is flying this prep, looks a get a nice run just off the speed and should prove hard to hold out. Oamaru Owl is as honest as they come, barrier looks tricky here, will most likely have to go back early, he will be running on late. Call Me Curtis and Nipperkin are both nice types resuming but the 1000m should be too short for them.
Avanti Rose clearly the one to beat but is going to need plenty of luck from the barrier, can’t take the short price on offer.
Race 9: Highway Hotel After Party Handicap 1400m
Savatag resumes for the Clarken stable coming from New Zealand, has opened up favourite, extremely hard to line up. Lord Topper is flying and is as tough as they come, will be on speed and prove hard to catch once again. Battlecamp flew late to score first up, can go on with it here. Enki is going well but struggling to win a race it town, still must be respected. Regal Spur was strong when winning last start, maps well here.
Impossible to have any confidence here with the New Zealand import, staying out.
