Morphettville Parks Preview 8-Jun-19
Track – Currently Rated Soft 5
Rail – Out 8 metres from 1000m to WP, 5 metres Remainder.
Race 1: Sabois 2YO Handicap 1250m
2YO race to kick off the day with Celtic Rebel the current favourite at $2.20. No confidence in a speed map with half of the field on debut.
Blake Says: Minimal interest here with half of the field on debut, happy to watch and learn.
Lachlan Says: No real opinion in this. CELTIC REBEL was slow away on debut and came home well for an eye-catching 3rd at Moe. Open to improvement but not sure you want to dive into a $2.15 chance that finished 3rd at Moe vs some unknowns.
Race 2: Sabois + BM 86 Handicap 1950m
Staying race for the day over the 1950m and we have All Too Huiying a current short priced favourite at $1.80. There looks some early pressure in the small field, Silent Warrior has the speed to cross and lead.
Blake Says: All Too Huiying was strong when beating Silent Warrior last start after being put under heavy pressure on the turn. Silent Warrior looked to have every chance and won’t be finding the front with ease here. No value, staying out.
Lachlan Says: Another race that doesn't interest me much ALL TOO HUIYING managed to grab the brave SILENT WARRIOR on the line last start. SILENT WARRIOR meets the horse 2kg better at the weights here so if you are desperate for a bet then perhaps go that way.
Race 3: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1300m
We race over the 1300m here with Spielberg currently heading the market at $3.60. Looks some early pressure in the small field.
Blake Says: Tricky race. Regalo Di Gaetano top pick but no betting interest. Staying out.
Lachlan Says: ROBERT DE FETE comes back from a decent effort at odds down the Flemington straight first up. Looks the testing material. Happy to risk SPEILBERG here also. The top weight REGALO DI GAETANO is a winning machine and the form lines around him keep stacking up with BOLD STAR winning on Saturday. Happy to have a small bet on REGALO but think we might get $4+ on the day.
Race 4: Sabois F&M BM 75 Handicap 1300m
Over the 1300m once again here with Absolute Heaven the current $3.90 favourite. Absolute Heaven looks the leader with Lady Bethany and Hello Gorgeous working across to sit handy.
Blake Says: Absolute Heaven has been solid in both runs this prep, finds a very winnable race here and the slight drop in distance should suit. Stable going well, with a positive ride can lead and should prove hard to run down. Beautiful Flyer seems to be going OK but needs plenty to go right with her racing pattern. Lady Bethany is an interesting runner, dominant last start but did have favours and much tougher here.
Lachlan Says: LADY BETHANY has had a three week freshen since murdering a MDN field by 10L at Murray Bridge. Is taking a massive leap into a BM75 v some seasoned horses so will have to bring the "A Game" to be in the finish. BEAUTIFUL FLYER seems to be getting back somewhere near the best form but has a poor racing pattern. Hard to dive in at the price but wouldn't be surprised if she swamps them late. Pretty even bunch here and not much value to be found. Staying out.
Race 5: Sabois 3YO Maiden Plate 1000m
We race over the sprint journey here and it’s an open market with Sham I Am the current $4.40 favourite.
Blake Says: Counter Drive was well supported first up at Balaklava and ran well after being caught wide throughout. Gets a positive jockey change here and has an experience edge on most of his rivals. Maps to get a lovely run just off the speed and looks a good each way play.
Lachlan Says: Interesting early move for Nick Smart's MILLIONMOSS here. Opened $18 Wednesday and has been consistently backed overnight to $12. No trial form so it must have jumped out or worked well at home. Respect the move in an astute stable. GO BALLISTIC was rolled first up in a Pt Augusta MDN at $1.20. Has since trialled well at Morphettville. One to watch. COUNTER DRIVE was a bit stiff first up at Balaklava when raced wide the trip and kept coming through the line. Stable going well. RIZSKI has the ability but struggles to breakthrough and SHAM I AM was only fair on debut. Looks a bit of a guessing game but if you follow the money then MILLIONMOSS must be respected.
Race 6: BM 86 Handicap 1000m
We race over the sprint journey again here with Akkacan & Mystified current $4 equal favourites. Pleasant and Irish Mint look the main speed engaged.
Blake Says: Looks a tricky little race and one I have zero betting interest in, happy to move on to the next.
Lachlan Says: A couple of well-performed horses resuming here in MYSTIFIED and LOPE DE CAPIO. Will be a nice watch for them first up to see how the preparation could work out. PLEASANT was a soft winner over the border since a stable change. Chance again if he can repeat the dose. The interesting runner here is TEQUILA TIME. Saddle slipped first up and was a forgive. Then sent to Flemington for a straight race where he did enough. Stable must think he's going well enough to send him straight to Melbourne after a non event first up. Has been met with early support and third up looks ideal. Each-way chance.
Race 7: BM 75 Handicap 1250m
Race over the 1250m and its Illumicon currently heading the market at $2.50. Looks some early pressure.
Blake Says: Illumicon is becoming costly, gets a positive jockey change here but not sure the rise in distance suits and map looks a touch tricky. Kabini drops back to a much more suitable race, they will likely go back here from the barrier and she should be hitting the line well late.
Lachlan Says: ILLUMICONI is becoming a "gunner" and while I thought it was the best of the day last start, I'm not diving in again. He should have there measure but he seems to hate the winning post. KABINI drops back from G3 level where she was outclassed. Could figure. PALE ALE, ROTHMOORE and VIERA will all run honest races. Might have something on KABINI with the class drop.
Race 8: BM 64 Handicap 1400m
We close out the day with a race over the 1400m with Sorority Lass the current $4 favourite. Looks good early pressure and expecting an above average tempo.
Blake Says: Sorority Lass was a dominant maiden winner on the synthetic last start, finds a race with little depth here and maps well, no value in the price as there are some queries. Staying out.
Lachlan Says: SORORITY LASS was a dominant MDN winner first up. Looks to be a progressive type. Punters have found the early price. LEFT HAND MAN has been racing well and did a bit wrong last time out. Class drop suits. KINGSGROVE is racing really well this prep. Is a big striding solid horse and if they go quick in front, can salute. Hard race to finish the day but might nibble these three.
Blakes Overview
Best Each Way – R5 #1 Counter Drive
Lachlan’s Overview
Best – Looks only a fair days racing and it was very hard to extract value from any of these races so will be with R6 #4 Tequila Time on a 1X3 basis.
