Morphettville Parks Review 24-Feb-18
Race 1: 2KW Bar & Restaurant Handicap 1000m
Gytrash (1st) showed good speed to sit outside the leader, let down well in the straight to go on and win well, looks a nice type. Dancer’s Kin (2nd) settled at the rear, peeled out and loomed strongly, no match the winner. Mashaheer (3rd) settled at the rear, didn’t have the best of luck in the straight but still wouldn’t have gotten near the winner.
Race 2: Palmer Hospitality Group 3YO Maiden Plate 1000m
Incomparable (1st) was caught wide midfield, was outsprinted, and looked to be struggling, picked up and knuckled down strongly late to score, big win. Exalted Lauretta (2nd) led and controlled, gave a good kick, and looked the winner, bloused late. Marina (3rd) sat outside the leader and battled on strongly in the straight.
Race 3: The New Morphett Arms Hotel Handicap 2250m
Flying Casino (1st) settled towards the rear, travelled up well on the turn, and let down strongly to win well, be careful following forward. Tunes (2nd) sat on the speed and ran his usual honest race. Dance of Heroes (3rd) settled towards the rear and hit the line strongly late.
Race 4: Pimm’s Handicap 1250m
Callisto Girl (1st) showed good gate speed, ended up box seating, outsprinted early in the straight but picked up strongly late to score. Silent Ice (2nd) was caught wide on the speed, let down well to take over and look the winner, just knocked up a touch late. Babitzin (3rd) settled just off the speed and battled on well enough in the straight.
Race 5: Peroni Handicap 1550m
Strategic Demand (1st) settled towards the rear, worked into the race nicely around the turn, went back to the inside, found a gap, and sprinted well, strong through the line, deserved win. Smart as You Think (2nd) was caught wide without cover the entire trip, loomed up strongly in the straight, took the lead and looked the winner, knocked up late. Scratchy Lass (3rd) settled just off the speed and battled on well enough in the straight.
Race 6: James Boag’s Premium Handicap 1400m
On pace dominated. Mo Femme (1st) settled just off the speed, peeled out on the turn, very one paced but kept grinding away to get up late, tough effort. Atlantica (2nd) led and controlled, gave a kick around the turn, and looked the winner, knocked up late. El Desperado (3rd) box seated, one paced in the straight, battled on well enough.
Race 7: The Warradale Hotel Handicap 1250m
Blue Tycoon (1st) sat on the speed, held the rail, and sprinted well in the straight, never asked to fully let down, did it easily. This Kid Rocks (2nd) sat on the speed, travelled strongly into the straight, battled on strongly but no match the winner. Counter Spin (3rd) settled towards the rear, peeled out on the turn, and hit the line well,
Race 8: Metcalf Group (SA) Handicap 1000m
Nipperkin (1st) settled towards the rear on rails, saved ground on the turn but had nowhere to go, rails run appeared, let down strongly to score, looks in for a good prep. Call Me Curtis (2nd) led, gave a great kick in the straight, fought on well, winner too strong. Punt Club (3rd) sat outside the lead and battled on strongly.
Race 9: Highway Hotel After Party Handicap 1400m
On pace dominated. Savatag (1st) had a nice run just off the speed, peeled out on the turn, didn’t show a great sprint, kept grinding away to get up in the last few strides, tough win. Tycoon Sofie (2nd) led and controlled, fought on well in the straight, winner too strong late. Lord Topper (3rd) sat outside the leader, ran his usual honest race.
