Morphettville Parks Review 27-Jan-18
Race 1: DC Vending Handicap 1300m
Scarecrow (1st) sat outside the leader on a slow tempo, leader kicked, and he looked under pressure, found plenty late to score, good effort. Bris Vegas (2nd) led and controlled, gave a great kick, winner just too strong late. Troon (3rd) sat just off the slow speed, couldn’t sprint with top two but battled on well.
Race 2: UBET Adelaide Cup – 12th March Handicap 2250m
Andrea Mantegna (1st) box seated, held up on the turn, once the gap appeared, powered away, classes above. Spy Decoder (2nd) led, gave a kick, no match the winner, beat the rest easily. Flying Casino (3rd) made late ground.
Race 3: James Boag’s Premium Handicap 1000m
Iconic (1st) settled towards the rear off a strong tempo, peeled widest in the straight to finished off strongly to score. Classy Jack (2nd) sat on the speed, kept finding in the straight, winner just too strong late, nice effort. Vikings Reward (3rd) settled last, made ground along the rails late.
Race 4: Schweppes Handicap 1250m
They went hard here, set it up for the backmarkers. Red Dazzle (1st) settled last, peeled widest on turn, was still well off them, knuckled down strongly last 200m to score, had favours. Rupture (2nd) and Sawaiki (3rd) both settled towards the rear and took over 200m out before winner bloused them late. Forgive the on pacers, they went too hard up front.
Race 5: Medallion Homes 3YO Maiden Plate 1000m
Institution (1st) had a lovely run just off the speed, peeled out in straight, knuckled down strongly last 100m to score a deserved win. Miss Labelle (2nd) led and gave a great kick, winner just too strong late. Rocket Sox (3rd) had a great run in transit, made late ground.
Race 6: Holdfast Insurance Handicap 1000m
Heart of a Lion (1st) box seated off a strong tempo, got the rails run and knuckled down strongly late to just win, good return. Olivier (2nd) had a nice run off the speed, loomed up strongly, just missed. El Prado Gold (3rd) settled last, hit the line well late to just miss.
Race 7: Lloyd Cromwell Handicap 1400m
Lord Topper (1st) had to work early, before sitting outside leader, travelled well, was headed but fought on strongly late to win, flying, tough win. Unbreakable (2nd) sat just off the speed, looked the winner on straightening, hit the lead but winner fought on too well. Galaxy Gazer (3rd) had a nice run in transit, battled on well enough in the straight.
Race 8: The Junction Handicap 1400m
Simpatico (1st) box seated, sprinted well once gap appeared and fought on strongly late to hold on. Groove with Me (2nd) settled last, peeled widest, looked the winner but winner too strong late. Cronauer (3rd) was heavily backed, led, and didn’t offer much in the straight.
