Race 1: TAB SA Sires Produce 1400m
We kick off the day with a race for the 2YO’s over the 1400m. She Shao Fly currently heads the market at $3. Barcali and Hinchpin look the main speed engaged.
Blake Says: Good little race but not one I’m keen to get involved in. She Shao Fly top pick but not willing to take the current price on offer.
Lachlan Says: While it is a hot little race, it's not one I'm keen to get involved in early. With the heavy track likely to play it's part with these youngsters it's a race I will be avoiding. McEvoy obviously has the strong hand here.
Race 2: Autumn Series Final 1400m
Race over the 1400m here with Vinland the current $2.90 favourite. There looks solid speed with Vegas Boulevard the one likely to take up the lead.
Blake Says: Debt Collector was good again last start without winning. Finds a very winnable race here but barrier one looks the big concern with his racing pattern. With even luck, he looks the one to beat but not willing to take the current price on offer.
Lachlan Says: DEBT COLLECTOR continues to tease at the short quotes but just keeps finding a couple better. Query on the soft going. ROSELLI STING is racing is career best form and the market always seems to underrate him. Proven on soft/heavy and will race well again. ARKHAM KNIGHT has always shown plenty of promise and was excellent last start in Stakes race. Will enjoy the chop out. Happy to be on it and ROSELLI STING for a small wager.
Race 3: 3YO Handicap 1050m
We race over the sprint journey here with Assertive Play the current $4 favourite. Looks good pressure, expecting a strong tempo.
Blake Says: Tough race. Looks plenty of pressure. Assertive Play looks to map well, should be able to settle off the speed and have the last crack at them, just not sure how well she is going. Staying out.
Lachlan Says: ASSERTIVE PLAY looks very hard to beat here 2nd up. Never lost at the track and appreciates sting out. Trialled well in-between runs leading into this event. Dom Tourneur has had great success on this horse when in the care of Stokes. MORE THAN EXCEED and obvious talent and it's great to see TEQUILLA TIME back racing but happy to be with ASSERTIVE PLAY.
Race 4: BM 90 Handicap 1200m
Race over the 1200m with Sam’s Image the current $3 favourite. Sam’s Image can work across to lead with Go The Journey and Easy Beast handy.
Blake Says: Tricky race. Go The Journey was solid last start, the slight drop in distance looks no concern. Can settle on the speed and give them something to catch but not a race I’m keen to get involved in.
Lachlan Says: SPLIT LIP continues to get along way back and charge home when it's all over. Only concern is the wet track. CHAPEL CITY has been poor in two runs since a break but has paraded well both times and may appreciate the heavy conditions. Not too keen to play a part in this one.
Race 5: Prov Super Series Final 1800m
We are over the 1800m here and it’s a wide open market with Dexter You Devil the current $5 favourite. Don’t Dismiss looks the leader with Tahnee Tiara and Lostarc handy.
Blake Says: Dexter You Devil has been racing well, maps to get a lovely run just off the speed here and should be strong late, the one to beat. Miss Identified was strong last start, gets a positive jockey change and can again but will have to go well back from the barrier.
Lachlan Says: TAHNEE TIARA here on the each-way. Been up for a while but never runs a bad race and was chopped out of things late last start when trying to finish off the last 75m. Bred to get through the conditions and forever toughs things out. MISS IDENTIFIED was knocking on the door last start and got the deserved victory. Can win again.
Race 6: Adelaide Guineas 1600m
We race over the mile here with East Indiaman currently heading the market at $4.80. Looks good pressure, Left Hand Man could burn across from out wide to lead with East Indiaman and Havana Heat handy.
Blake Says: Wide open race. Not sure the rise in distance suits East Indiaman, will likely have to do some work early. Looks a touch short. Tongsai Boss can run a good race here with the blinkers going back on, proven at the mile. Will just need some luck early from the barrier.
Lachlan Says: Flashing light on ICE GHOST after last start when was held up and flashed hard through the line late. Is by Bradbury's Luck (genuine swimmers breed) so will get the favourable wet conditions. The horse has always shown above average ability and looks well placed here on the each-way. ($12-$9 in early betting). MUSWELLBROOK has only been fair across the border but the Oliver-factor brings the horse into calcs. Don't write off SPLASH SOME CASH at the big price either.
Race 7: TAB SA Derby 2500m
Group 1 SA Derby with Mr Quickie the current $3.90 favourite. Gayson, Mint To Be and Resurge will all be looking to be prominent early.
Blake Says: Tough race with many queries. Mr Quickie was very impressive when winning last start, should be able to find a position midfield with cover here, distance the unknown. Declarationofheart was a class above them last start, maps to get a soft run here and should be hard to hold out late. Not a race I’m keen to get involved in.
Lachlan Says: Vic Derby place-getter CHAPADA didn't handle the going last start on a heavy which must be a concern on Saturday. Ultra-talented but happy to risk. DECLARATIONOFHEART is now starting to put things together at the right time and was dominant in the lead up event. STAR STATUS and QAFILA were roughies that were both pretty luckless in that same race and SAVVY OAK can be respected at the big price. Will be having nibbles on the last three mentioned.
Race 8: SA Sprint Series Final 1100m
We finish off the day with a race over the 1100m with Parsifal the current $2.60 favourite. Looks good speed with Zarace, Akkacan, Domination and Illumicon all looking to be prominent early.
Blake Says: Parsifal was a soft winner last start in a race with little depth, This looks tougher, gets a negative jockey change and will get crossed here and could land in a tricky position on the fence. Illumicon was very good first up, hoping for a positive ride here from the wide barrier, if he can find a position on the speed without having to work overly hard, should prove hard to run down.
Lachlan Says: Pretty hard to ignore PARSIFAL here. Dominant victory and the Warrnambool carnival and has drawn to do no work. Looks the one to beat. Tough barrier for ILLUMICONI but has the in-form hoop aboard and it might be the pattern later in the day. It's easy to tip favourites but it's really hard to go past these two here.
