Morphettville Preview 15-Jun-19

Morphettville Preview 15-Jun-19

Track – Currently Rated Heavy 8

Rail – Out 9 metres from 1200m to WP, 6 metres Remainder.

Race 1: Sabois 2YO Handicap 1100m

2YO race to kick off the day over the 1100m with God’s Penny the current $5 favourite.

Blake Says: Minimal interest here with majority of the field on debut. Happy to watch and learn.

Lachlan Says: Cheeky little 2yo race to start the day with many hopes. Thought SHEZA LITTLE POSH didn't have much luck v GO'DS PENNY last time out and meets the horse well at the weights. Out of the other race brigade I understand the long-odds early support for SEAFOOD SOURCE. Raced on a genuine bog track on debut and did it the hard way racing 3-4 wide the trip. I guess you can count that as heavy form vs a few unknowns. Happy to have a nibble on that at a price.

Race 2: Sabois + BM 82 Handicap 2500m

Staying race of the day and we have Zabalan currently heading the market at $3.80. Lostarc could work across to lead with Aldolphin handy.

Blake Says: Don’t like to get involved in these staying races and that won’t change here, looks very tricky and I’m happy to move on to the next race.

Lachlan Says: One for the war-horses here! Staying race on the Heavy track. Survival of the toughest! GRAND DREAMER stays all day and loves the chop out while SASKO and ZABALAN also have the heavy form. Prepared to risk LOSTARC today and will stick with the first three mentioned but little interest in all honesty.

Race 3: BM 70 Handicap 2035m

Another staying event over the 2035m here with Hussy’s Glow the current $2.50 favourite. There doesn’t look a whole lot of speed with Time Rogue the likely leader.

Blake Says: Not a race I’m keen to get involved in. Super Swoop returns to town after consecutive wins at the Provincials. This is tougher but maps to get a nice run just off the speed. Hussy’s Glow will get back and need some luck in running, looks short in current markets.

Lachlan Says: HUSSY'S GLOW has been racing well in better events but not 100/% sure I want to be jumping into those odds. Will chew up the heavy track albeit. SUPER SWOOP is going well and you can't knock the form while COLESBERG jumps up significantly in trip but has heavy form and the trainer must be respected on recent form. Staying out.

Race 4: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1050m

Race for the sprinters and we have Burning The Clock currently heading the market at $3.50. Papalet and Exalted Maxine should ensure a solid tempo here.

Blake Says: Burning The Clock had every chance last start but still went well. Maps to get a lovely run just off the speed once again here and if Pannell can get him off the fence at the right time, he will be hard to hold out. Bold Star who beat Burning The Clock last start continues to race well, can settle closer from the barrier and will be in the finish. No value, staying out.

Lachlan Says: BOLD STAR has been a model of consistency this prep and must be respected again. Jones has been steering this horse in great fashion. BURNING THE CLOCK comes from the same race as BOLD STAR and meets the horse slightly better at the weights so if that's how you assess things then it might be worth a bet. BAYOU gets in light and has been around the mark lately. Might be the knockout chance.

Race 5: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1600m

Race over the mile with Ice Ghost the current $4.40 favourite. Mint To Be, Predicated & Nudge Bar look the main speed engaged.

Blake Says: Rapid Bay has impressed me in his career to date, went well last start and looks more suited here from a wider barrier and the sting out. Maps to get a nice run midfield off the rails and should prove hard to hold out late. Ice Ghost continues to race well without winning, will have to go well back from the barrier here and will need favours.

Lachlan Says: Happy to be in RAPID BAY corner again. Liked it last time out but got back in a muddling tempo race and hit the line hard when it was all over. Looks to be more speed in this and the sting out with help. ICE GHOST will be around the mark again and is bred for the conditions while NUDGE BAR ran well on a heavy track last time out. RAPID BAY as an each-way special for the day.

Race 6: 4UP BM 70 Handicap 1600m

We race over the mile again here with Gigglon & Going Gaga current equal $5.50 favourites. Saucy Jack and Rainmoth look the main speed engaged.

Blake Says: Wide open race. Going Gaga top pick but happy to move onto the next.

Lachlan Says: Can make a case for about 7-8 horses here. GOING GAGA was a deserved winner last time out but really battled on his only start that was worse than a good 4. GIGGLEON grows a leg in the wet but has to come from the South East to a City event. CANFORD and DIAMOND TYCOON represent nice value at odds. They are both worth a small ticket but it really is a tough race to asses.

Race 7: BM 64 Handicap 1050m

We race over the 1050m here with Suplex City the current $4.60 favourite. Mum’s My Hero looks the leader.

Blake Says: Tricky race with many queries. Suplex City resumes for the new stable and has been given two very quiet trials, market probably your best guide. Nasifa was dominant when winning last start, this is much tougher but looks to have plenty of upside, heavy track the unknown.

Lachlan Says: Dominant MDN win for NASIFA last start. Won like a good horse in the making. Rises to a BM64 but should handle it. VICKI'S BOY is most likely in need of the run so it might be worth watching an learning with it. Has always had great ability but has had issues to go with it. Throw HE IS GOLDEN, READY SUNSHINE and SUPLEX CITY in the first up mix. All should improve on anything they do. Happy to back NASIFA each-way on the way it won last start.

Race 8: BM 70 Handicap 1200m

We end the day with a race over the 1200m and we have Charossa heading the market at $4.60. Pretiosa can kick up to lead from the inside gate.

Blake Says: Nothing went right for Charossa first up when heavily backed, finds another winnable race here and maps to get a good run just off the speed. Heavy track the unknown. Oh Mo likes the sting out, will need luck with his racing pattern but has the talent to win a race of this nature.

Lachlan Says: Tricky finish to the day (as they always as) with CHAROSSA looking for a bit of luck for a change. Heavily backed first up but was held up and was good enough late to warrant selecting again. MASTER CHUM is the rough chance in this. Will finally get some genuine speed on, settle back and produce late. By CLANGALANG so will appreciate the chop out. BAJAN and PRETOSIA can race well at a price too. Happy to nibble all these and possibly throw in an exacta.
