Morphettville Preview 17-Feb-18
Track – Currently Rated Good 4
Rail – +9m 1200m – WP, +6m Remainder
Race 1: James Boag’s Premium Handicap 1200m
Mondo Magic was good when winning a good race last start, has come back a much stronger horse this prep, will lead and prove hard to catch, stepping up to 1200m for the first time the only concern. Bris Vegas ran into the smart Scarecrow last start, had favours but still ran well, Kah takes the ride, must be respected. Institution was impressive when breaking through last start, beat Miss Labelle there who has come out and won impressively since, this is a step up but is right in this.
Top race but tricky, no betting interest.
Race 2: Holdfast Insurance 2YO Plate 1100m
No interest here with majority of the field on debut. Out of the raced brigade, Double Denman ran into some nice types on debut and is a deserved favourite here with Kah taking the ride.
Race 3: Quayclean Maiden Plate 1100m
Moon Spinner on debut here for the McEvoy camp and has come up a short priced favourite and there has been good support early, has just had the one trial, impossible to line up. Mazestic resumes off a good first prep, this looks suitable and deserves to break through.
Impossible to bet here with the short priced debutant from the McEvoy camp.
Race 4: UBET Adelaide Cup Monday 12th March Handicap 1200m
Stellar Collision comes here after contesting some strong races in Melbourne, will need luck from the inside barrier, but will be hitting the line strongly late. Benz went well last start when going down narrowly, meets a similar field here, must be respected. Go the Journey is flying, will burn across from the outside barrier and prove hard to catch.
Stellar Collision on top but no betting interest.
Race 5: Medallion Homes Handicap 2035m
Ace Attack scored a deserved win last start, going well but will most likely have to go well back from the wide barrier here. Euroman comes here from Victoria for the Weir camp, extremely hard to line up. Grumpy Guru scored a deserved win last start at Gawler, this is much harder but can take confidence from that win and go on with it here.
Looks a lottery, staying out.
Race 6: Holdfast Insurance Birthday Cup 2035m
The Chairman comes here from Victoria, this is a much easier task than he has been contesting but couldn’t touch the short quote on offer. Exalted Lightning is flying, just keeps running well, will most likely go back from the barrier and be hitting the line strongly late. Jim’s Journey is racing well without winning, the rise in distance suits.
0.5 units – Exalted Lightning @ $5.50
Race 7: Hughes Limousines Handicap 1600m
Groove with Me is racing well without winning, this race looks suitable, will be up towards the speed and prove hard to catch. Daktari is racing very well at the Provincials, this is a step up but wouldn’t surprise here. Savanero is an honest on pacer, should burn across from the wide barrier and give them something to catch.
0.5 units – Savanero @ $7
Race 8: The Junction Handicap 1100m
The unbeaten Won Ball comes up favourite here for the Weir camp, has to keep stepping up, but looks very talented and is a deserved favourite. Midnight Storm is racing very well, honest type who should find a position from the barrier and hit the line well late. Tempting Faith is racing well without winning, will be on speed here and should be amongst the finish.
Won Ball on top but no betting interest.
