Morphettville Review 3-Feb-18
Race 1: James Boag’s Premium Handicap 1600m
Skillful Steps (1st) had a lovely run just off the speed, peeled out in the straight, showed a good turn of foot to put them away and win easily. Belfast (2nd) settled at the rear, could never build momentum, got going late, willing to forgive, wasn’t given the greatest ride and the small field doesn’t suit. Antipas (3rd) sat on the speed and battled away in the straight.
Race 2: Schweppes Handicap 1600m
Lite’n in my Veins (1st) had the perfect run just off the speed, peeled out, kept coming late and proved too good for them. Savanero (2nd) led and gave a great kick, winner just too strong late. Scratchy Lass (3rd) settled worse than midfield, made ground in the straight.
Race 3: Holdfast Insurance Handicap 1050m
More than Exceed (1st) box seated, got clear in the straight and let down well, knuckled down strongly late to score, nice type. Dancer’s Kin (2nd) had a nice run in transit, loomed up strongly to just about hit the front in the straight, winner was too strong late but good debut. Double Denman (3rd) sat on the speed and battled on well.
Race 4: Hughes Limousines Handicap 1100m
Mondo Magic (1st) showed its usual great gate speed to lead, gave a great kick around the turn and has held them off with some ease, much stronger horse this prep. Plutocracy (2nd) settled midfield, peeled out in straight, hit the line well but was never going to catch the winner. Thompson’s Reward (3rd) had a lovely run box seating, battled on well enough. Éclair Sunshine (4th) settled towards the rear and ran on well late, will take good improvement from the run.
Race 5: UBET Adelaide Cup Monday 12th March Handicap 1200m
Counter Pulse (1st) sat outside the leader, took over on straightening and was there to be beaten, fought on strongly to score. Benz (2nd) box seated, never got out to the 250m mark, sprinted well, just couldn’t get past the winner. One More Daisy (3rd) settled at the rear, ran on strongly late slicing through the field.
Race 6: Medallion Homes Handicap 1100m
Zalmona (1st) had a lovely run midfield, peeled out and let down strongly to hit lead, just held on. Midnight Storm (2nd) was heavily backed, sat on the speed, and hit the lead early in the straight, was clearly headed and fought back strongly to just miss. Sang Choi Bao (3rd) settled towards the rear, sliced through the field to hit the line strongly late.
Race 7: Adelaide Galvanising Handicap 1800m
Ace Attack (1st) had a perfect run just off the speed, peeled out and kept grinding away to prove too strong late, deserved win. Flow Meter (2nd) box seated, got out on straightening, and let down well to hit the lead, winner just too strong late. Sagaab (3rd) settled towards the rear and ran on strongly late.
Race 8: The Junction Handicap 1200m
Regal Spur (1st) had a nice run box seating, got out and was outsprinted, kept grinding away to ware down the tiring leader late. Just a Bigger Dash (2nd) sat outside the leader, sprinted well to hit the lead, and look the winner, really knocked up last 100m. Babitzin (3rd) had a lovely run in transit and battled on well enough.
