November Monthly Wrap

By Steve Watson

Welcome to my Monthly Wrap of the Horse Racing Professionals service. I will be sharing with you my results and experiences in following each service throughout the month and any of the highs and lows I experienced.

I always keep accurate records and review my performance against the official results at the end of each month to see what I got right, what I got wrong and how I can improve. I believe this is one of the most crucial aspects to punting regardless whether you are betting $10, $100 or $1000 per unit stakes.

The approach I take is this:
The analysts have done all the hard deriving the selections, staking and ensuring odds are fair and achievable.
My job is to place all the bets at the best possible price!

Let’s have a look at how each service performed and how I compared in November.

Deans Tips

This service needs no introduction banking big profit’s month after month for me with November no exception. It is the backbone of my portfolio for a reason and last month did not disappoint which is even more impressive after a drawdown at the beginning.

HRP Results: 42.20u profit
Steve’s Results: 38.16u profit

I was 9.5% down the official HRP for the month and it was down to one thing. Taking too many ‘lazy’ odds. It may have been a busy month with Spring Racing Carnival but still on too many occasions I locked in an early fixed price only for it to drift and win at far better odds.

Dean has written a ton of information regarding this in the Members Information Pack and it does pay to read and follow the advice given.

On a positive note for the first 7 days of December I am outperforming the official by 7%

Pedigree Power

HRP Results: 63.78u profit
Steve’s Results: 65.33u profit

Geoff has really come out the blocks firing what a start this service has had posting a 63.78u profit in November making it 81.6 units profit in the first two months!

This has been a great addition to my portfolio being easy to follow with a low volume of bets and most importantly exceptionally profitable.

I still left some meat on the table last month but personally I am pleased to have outperformed HRP by 2.4%

NZ Tips

HRP Results: 12.05u profit
Steve’s Results: 16.13u profit

Since John modified the staking to each way bets at the start of the month it has really reduced the variance with November seeing a solid profit of 12.05 units.

It is always a rockier ride when you are backing horses at longer odds but I really am a fan of the service as it provides a great opportunity to outperform the official results.

Due to selections being longer odds there are big variations in the bookmaker quoted prices along with great prices late on Betfair. With results recorded at 3rd best fixed or Vic tote I had no problem in bettering the official.

Very pleased to be up 4.08 units which is 33% better.

Gary’s Ratings

HRP Results: 0.95u loss
Steve’s Results: 6.25u loss

A small loss for Gary’ Ratings in November after 5 month’s straight profit. Interesting to note that the Win bets made over 20 units profit alone, with only a tough run on the exotics dragging this down. Too many 3/4 quaddies!

Personally this is the service that I struggled with the most this month as evident by my results. It is in no way a reflection on the quality of Gary’s Ratings it’s just a fact like with any Ratings service that you need to be monitoring prices throughout the day to get the most out of it. This is something that I was unable to do last month due to the heavy Spring Carnival workload.

I have been advised that there are a number of improvements coming soon to simplify the service and have a standardised recording approach for results. I am really looking forward to this as it will only make a great service even better.

Summary

Combined HRP results: 117.08u profit
Combined Steve’s results: 113.37u profit

What can I say except that it was a big month for me personally and I learnt some valuable lessons along the way namely not to be lazy in placing your bets! Even if you are time poor there are ways that you can maximise your returns which is something that I will be sharing in a later post.

December has started strong so I am hoping for another big month of profit to cap off what has been a great year!
