Randwick Review 16-Dec-17
Race 1: ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap 1100m
Savatiano (1st) settled midfield, travelled up strongly on the turn and showed a nice turn of foot to put them away. Calculated (2nd) settled worse than midfield and kept grinding away in the straight, expect him to take big improvement from the run. Awesome Pluck (3rd) led and didn’t offer much in the straight.
Race 2: TAB Highway Handicap 1000m
Victorem (1st) settled midfield in a messy race and copped some interference, presented well in the straight and just grinded to the line to get up on the line. All Stand (2nd) sat outside the leader, gave a good kick, grabbed on the line. Under the Thumb (3rd) settled worse than midfield on the rails, stuck to the rails and ran on strongly late to just miss.
Race 3: Christmas Cup 2400m
Vassal (1st) settled towards the rear, travelled up well in the straight and has gone on to win easily, going well. Broadside (2nd) led, kept finding in the straight but no match the winner. Prince Cheri (3rd) loomed up strongly in the straight and took the lead, knocked up late.
Race 4: Inglis Nursery 1000m
Irish Bet (1st) sat just behind the speed, travelled up strongly, and let down well to win with ease, impressive debut. Ragged Rascal (2nd) sat on the speed and battled on strongly in the straight, nice effort. Canyonero (3rd) settled midfield and ran on well late, nice debut. Logan River (6th) was very green throughout, think he has some ability and can keep improving.
Race 5: Catanach’s Handicap 1200m
Anatola (1st) led, got control and was never really in doubt, let down well in sprint away from them, going well. O’ Rachael (2nd) box seated and kept coming in the straight, had a nice run in transit but still a nice return. They cleared out from the rest.
Race 6: Right2drive Handicap 1600m
Sedanzer (1st) had a nice run just off the speed, peeled out in the straight, let down strongly and has powered away to win well, tough mare and is flying. Zourkhan (2nd) box seated and has battled on well in the straight. Xebec (3rd) ran on well late from towards the rear. Dreamforce (8th) led, over raced early and knocked up late.
Race 7: Inglis Villiers Stakes 1600m
Crack me Up (1st) sat midfield off the very strong tempo, has ran on strongly in the straight to get up in the last few strides. Cabeza De Vaca (2nd) led at a crazy tempo, was still leading 100m out but grabbed in the last few strides, not a very good ride in my opinion, I think if Parr leads at a moderate tempo the horse wins with ease, the horse has gone very well. Interlocuter (3rd) settled towards the rear and has ran on strongly late, loses no admirers.
Race 8: Razor Sharp Handicap 1200m
Zestful (1st) settled worse than midfield, travelled into the race nicely and showed a nice turn of foot, held off the challenger late. I Thought So (2nd) had a lovely run, presented up well but winner was too strong, be careful following forward, he doesn’t want to win. They cleared out from the rest.
Race 9: TAB.com.au Handicap 1400m
Uptown Lad (1st) settled last and the Jockey got moving around the field approaching the turn, kept coming in the straight to win well, flying this prep. Savvan (2nd) followed the winner into the race, had his chance in the straight, still a nice effort. Siren’s Fury (3rd) settled worse than midfield, sliced through the field in the straight, hit the line well late, hard to follow with her racing pattern.
Horses to Follow
Calculated – Think he will take massive improvement from the first up run.
Logan River – Think this colt has ability and can keep improving with more race experience.
