The Week In Review: 10 - 16 September
Trial Spy
Week: 1.8 units profit (17.9% PoT)
Overall: 669.2 units profit (10.0% PoT)
We largely stuck to the provincials and country racing in search of value with the Trial Spy this week. We finished up with a couple of winners in Nothingforthepress (Grafton, Thursday) and Captain Courageous (Newcastle, Saturday), along with a place or two to deliver a healthy profit.
NSW Tips & Ratings
Week: 8.7 units profit (73.6% PoT)
Overall: 120.1 units profit (20.4% PoT)
Mark just continues to shoot the lights out… his incredible run continues, and the accuracy of his ratings was plain to see this week - we backed ten horses with seven off them running first or second. The winners were Coruscate (Canterbury, Wednesday), Carzoff (Newcastle, Friday) and Sei Stella and Trekking (Randwick, Saturday).
John's Analytics
Week: 26.4 units profit (128.7% PoT)
Overall: 219.8 units profit (14.9% PoT)
What a monstrous week! When we speak of variance after a poor week… this is what happens to even it up! John was typically busy with 21 horses backed for the week, and eight winners and a couple of placings delivered a huge week of profit. The winners were Autonomous (Wodonga, Monday), Stella Anne (Belmont, Wednesday), Princess Elle (Grafton, Thursday), Liu Bang (Wagga, Saturday), followed by a huge end to the week on Sunday with Supreme Attraction and Joey’s Destiny (Dubbo), Arohata (Geelong) and Balestrand (Devonport).
BlackBook Bets
Week: 0.5 units profit (2.8% PoT)
Overall: 292.0 units profit (7.7% PoT)
We gave the bank a good workout on BlackBook Bets this week. We found a few winners, but ultimately just got a breakeven result. Winners were Love Is Great (Moe, Tuesday), Zetorio (Northam, Thursday) and Bevel (Kalgoorlie, Sunday).
Dean’s Tips
Week: -18.2 units profit (-54.9% PoT)
Overall: 599.1 units profit (7.6% PoT)
Frustrating week for Dean’s Tips. It was very busy – we backed 33 horses. We found one winner in Holbein (Geelong, Sunday) and a few placings, but took a decent hit overall. Dean sent a quick message to members, so we’ll leave the comments to him:
Frustrating week. A lot written about the Balaklava track on Wednesday, one of the most rails biased we have seen in months, and unfortunately cost our selections who were caught out wide in quicksand. On Friday we had Cloak run 2nd at $36. Saturday we couldn't land a winning blow. Craig Williams said Kemono would have won if it hadn't bungled the start, Another Dollar was an unlucky 2nd, and in a few cases we appeared to be on horses a run too early. Libran wasn't trying at all, but finished home well after settling last and will be cherry ripe for the Metrop, Humidor got too far back, Ocean Knight will be better suited up in distance next start, while Gershom was heavily backed at Carnarvon and was given a sore back out wide without cover on a hot speed. Yesterday we should have finished well clear but Flash Missile was yanked back to last and ran 2nd, should have been nearer to the pace, On My Terms was caught out wide without cover running 4th costing us a place, Holbein won as expected, but then Imperial Eagle just couldn't get past the leader finhsing 2nd on a day when we should have easily finished a few units ahead at least.
Golf
Week: -1.7 units profit (-45.9% PoT)
Overall: 34.5 units profit (12.0% PoT)
We backed 16 players this week across The Evian Championship, KLM Dutch Open and Allberton Boise Open. We found plenty of value with some big-priced bets going very close, led by Roberto Diaz who finished fifth. We laid off on Diaz late to get a little bit back. A big winner is surely not far off.
