We had some nice winners last week including Absolute Flirt at $4.50 and Military Zone at $5.50, however it was a losing week overall due to an extraordinary number of 2nds including King’s Champ at $10, Czarson at $2.05, Regent Street at $4.80, Deep Sea at $3.50, Hightail at $20, Norske Code at $20 and Sir Mambo at $4.60. That was a massive 37.6 units in 2nds, with variance clearly showing its hand. Despite the losing week we remain up 125 units over the past 11 months. Hopefully we can turn a few more of those 2nds into winners this week.

Very poor week. In total we had 16.5 units worth of 2nds. Transact was a nice winner at $6 in the St Leger on Anzac Day, with Foxy Walk 2nd at $15 on the same day. Rosie Posie at $10 and Diablerie at $5.50 both ran 2nd on Saturday and Settler’s Stone was beaten by a nose at $3.20 on Sunday. However a number of runners were ridden much further back than expected and just missed placings, or ran well below their ratings. After 40 units profit in Feb & Mar the downward variance in March drops us back to 20 units profit over the past 12 weeks.  Disappointing to give back some of the recent profits accumulated. I will be spending the early part of this week reviewing selections to eliminate where we may be unnecessarily leaking units. Some preliminary analysis means I will be making substantial reductions to place betting, but will also be focusing on the jurisdictions and classes of races. Will advise findings in the coming days.
